So, what exaclty IS a heritage chicken? many people don't really know the difference. a heritage breed is a breed before farms became thousands of birds pact into barns, or modified to have more white meat, bigger breast size and larger weight.
they were hand picked and bred to create a bird that can live all year long in its enviroment, unlike its more modern conterparts.
According toThe Livestock Conservancy "Traditional, historic breeds retain essential attributes for survival and self-sufficiency – fertility, foraging ability, longevity, maternal instincts, ability to mate naturally, and resistance to diseases and parasites." - https://livestockconservancy.org

A heritage breed takes around 4-6 months instead of your commerical grown 8 weeks.
