The Chantecler is known as Canada's first ever chicken breed. it is a hardy duel use bird, perfect for meat and egg use, as well as durable enough for Canadian winters. 
The Chantecler was created in the early 20th Century in an Abby in Oka, Quebec.
There were many different crosses, including White Plymouth Rock, White Leghorn, Dark Cornish and Rhode Island Reds. Creating the bird you see today.

What is a Heritage Chicken?

Our Chanteclers are raised Free-ranged, fresh air and grass are always available.

   So, what exaclty IS a heritage chicken? many people don't really know the difference. a heritage breed is a breed before farms became thousands of birds pact into barns, or modified to have more white meat, bigger breast size and larger weight. 
they were hand picked and bred to create a bird that can live all year long in its enviroment, unlike its more modern conterparts.

A heritage breed takes around 4-6 months instead of your commerical grown 8 weeks.
